The Whites
The Shawnee were known for being reserved with others, even though they lived on other tribes lands. They would have been the same with the whites if they hadn't become so dependent on them.
The Shawnee were especially close to the French, via the fur trade. The French were the only Europeans that took the time to learn the language, customs of the indians and even got married. The French desired the furs of the land, and not the land itself. This allowed the indians to continue their lives uninterrupted.
The superior technology of the whites left the Shawnees dependent on the trade, and that dependency made them vulnerable. If they were to cut off trade their enemies would gain the upper hand in warfare, enabling the extinction of the Shawnee.
